Well, I have not been a student for 10 weeks and have only worked 2 of those weeks. Those 2 weeks were a lot of fun. I got to be a replacement gaffer for a term 3 VFS shoot. I was also a Term 1 mentor. The gaffer job was soooooo much fun! I got to work with students 6 months behind my class and get a feel for another class' dynamics. Being a mentor is hard. How much do you tell them what to do? Do you let them make mistakes before you tell them how to do it better, or do you tell them first? I also had to drive a very large rental vehicle to all the locations with the gear in it. I am used to driving a minivan but this SUV was awkwardly wide.
Anyway, I have no real job. I am a permittee in the Calgary IATSE union but that does not garuntee a job.
I now feel like I am waiting for life to start. I was a student so that was productive but now I am waiting for someone to acknowledge that I know what I am doing and pay me for it. Filming is pretty much done for the winter so I will get a real job until it starts up again. I really just want to use what I know.
Anybody out there need something to be filmed? or edited? or lit? or redecorated? or designed? I really want to do something....... :(
